Phyloflora-pyr

PHYLOFLORA-PYR is a cross-border project that aims to create a digital reference flora for the Pyrenees. The initiative seeks to gather, harmonize, and make available botanical knowledge of the massif through a shared tool that facilitates the consultation, updating, and dissemination of information on Pyrenean flora.

The platform will integrate species descriptions, reference images, geographic distribution data, and genetic information for the most complex groups. Species that are difficult to identify will be addressed with the support of molecular genetics, with the goal of improving their classification and developing reliable identification tools, including botanical keys for pilot groups.

All data generated by the project will be freely accessible, with the goal of encouraging its use by the scientific community, natural area managers, public administrations, the education sector, and the general public.

The project is based on cooperation among key players in Pyrenean botany from France, Spain, and Andorra, and on a broad network of partner entities. This collaboration enables the sharing of methodologies, the coordination of knowledge, and the strengthening of management and conservation capacities for plant biodiversity at the Pyrenean scale.

Beyond the scientific dimension, PHYLOFLORA-PYR aims to contribute to knowledge transfer and raise awareness about the flora of the Pyrenees. The project seeks to bring botanical information closer to diverse audiences, support environmental education, foster scientific vocations, and strengthen public awareness of biodiversity conservation challenges.

With a unified, open, and updatable tool, PHYLOFLORA-PYR contributes to improving knowledge of Pyrenean flora and promoting a more coordinated, sustainable, and shared management of the Pyrenees' plant heritage.

Phyloflora-pyr secures the participation of all regions of the Pyrenees, under the coordination of the Instituto Pirenaico de Ecología-CSIC with the leadership of Pablo Tejero, and has a total budget of €1,999,963.10.

It consists of eleven different working groups, which can be consulted below, along with the entity that coordinates them. Andorra Recerca + Innovació is one of the project's partner entities. 

The PHYLOFLORA-PYR project has been co-financed at 65% by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Spain-France-Andorra Program (POCTEFA 2021-2027). The objective of POCTEFA is to strengthen the economic and social integration of the Spain-France-Andorra border area.

In Andorra, the project's funding is entirely a proposal from Andorra Research + Innovation.
