The General Council hosts the presentation of 'Andorra: challenges for the future'

A work coordinated by Andorra Research + Innovation that includes debates and reflections on the challenges that Andorran society will face between 2021 and 2050

Can we decide what kind of mobility model we want without stopping to think about whether we set a limit to urban growth? Should we choose to set up isolated urban developments in different parts of the country or prioritize a model of concentrated urban clusters? Is it possible to promote a specific urbanistic model without first thinking about the demographic limit that the country can absorb? Is it possible to think about a population ceiling without first taking into account what resources -water and energy- are available? In order to define a country model it is necessary to take into account a series of variables that must be interconnected. This has been the main conclusion of the first challenge that the different political, economic and social actors that have participated in the initiative 'Andorra Challenges of the Future' have worked together.

In the spring of 2021, more than a hundred people met to discuss what were the future challenges of Andorran society for the next twenty-five years and to think together about actions to start facing them. We have worked in a transversal way, with the participation of experts and representatives of the seven commons, the General Council and the Government, on a series of challenges, such as the aforementioned to define a model of country, and also, the relations with a changing world, the management of public problems, climate change, energy transition, economic transformation, population ageing, a comprehensive health and welfare system, mobility and a country to live in. Andorra Recerca + Innovació has assumed the technical secretariat of the project and coordinated and edited the edition of the book that has been presented this Sunday in the lobby of the Andorran legislative chamber.
