Andorra opens two places for scientific research of excellence with shared affiliation AR+I and CRG

Andorra Research + Innovation (AR+I) and the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) opened yesterday, 7 April, an international call to recruit two positions for researchers of scientific excellence in mountain genomics. This initiative is part of the strategic collaboration between the two institutions, which aims to position Andorra as a leading hub in genomics applied to biodiversity, environmental health, biotechnology, and bioinformatics, while also promoting innovation initiatives geared towards development. The call seeks to attract top-level scientific talent in order to generate knowledge with scientific, technological, and economic impact.

Mountain ecosystems, particularly sensitive to the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss, provide a unique context for scientific research. Within this framework, the joint initiative by AR+I and the CRG aims to leverage Andorra’s natural environment as a living laboratory.

A strategic project for the country’s scientific and economic innovation

The initiative combines the expertise of the CRG—an international centre of excellence in genomics and biomedicine based in Barcelona—with the scientific potential of Andorra’s high-mountain ecosystems and the mission of AR+I as the national research and innovation institution.

These positions represent a clear commitment to scientific excellence and are aligned with the National Plan for Innovation and Diversification, promoted by the Ministry of Economy.

AR+I’s talent development programme fosters high-value scientific and technological activities, leveraging the country’s natural assets to consolidate an economic model based on research, innovation, and knowledge transfer, and to position Andorra as a benchmark in talent and innovation.

The recruitment of the selected candidates will enable the launch of the first phase of this strategic programme, which combines excellence in research with innovation development and knowledge transfer in the fields of omics sciences and biodiversity.

Particular consideration will be given to candidates who are Andorran nationals or residents, with the aim of strengthening talent linked to the country and consolidating a stable scientific community. Through these new positions, AR+I reinforces its role as a leading research and innovation centre in Andorra, expanding scientific capacity, knowledge, and expertise, while contributing to the creation of an innovation and research ecosystem aligned with the Principality’s economic diversification strategy.

The application period is open from April 7th to May 14th2026. Once the deadline has passed, a pre-selection phase will be conducted based on academic merits and research track record.

The selected researchers will carry out their main research project primarily in Andorra throughout the duration of the contract, which will initially be for three years, with the possibility of a two-year extension.
